Happy Valley claimed a title a long time coming on Monday night.

The Lady Warriors claimed the District 1-A title with a 56-47 victory over Sullivan East – the Lady Warriors first District crown since the 1996 campaign.

Adrienne Henegar opened the game with a trey, and Kaitlyn Roberts added a 3-pointer of her own to give HV an early 6-5 lead. Emily Whitaker and Shayln Whitson pushed the Lady Warriors to a 10-8 lead after a quarter of play.

With back-to-back shots, Whitson extended the lead to six points during the second quarter. Roberts hit a jumper after an SE basket to give HV an eight-point advantage, and the Lady Warriors maintained a 20-14 lead at the half.

Happy Valley maintained the advantage for most of the third quarter. After the Lady Patriots pulled within four points, Henegar and Whitaker hit shots to push the advantage back out. Sullivan East, however, went on a late run to close the lead to 37-36 going into the fourth quarter.

Henegar knocked down a jumper to open the quarter and get HV a little breathing room. In the final minutes, Happy Valley took care of business and held on for the win and district crown.

Henegar had 17 points to lead Happy Valley, while McGee had 11 points. Roberts tallied 10 points. Whitaker had nine points, while Whitson had eight points.

Roberts was selected as the Tournament MVP, while McGee, Whitson, Whitaker and Henegar joined Roberts on the All-Tournament team.

Unicoi County 42, Elizabethton 40
The Lady Cyclones were unable to take advantage of opportunities in the final minute of the consolation match-up.

Elizabethton saw the Lady Blue Devils take a 13-point lead into the second quarter, but fought back to take a 32-30 lead in the fourth quarter. After Autumn Lyon pushed the lead to four points, Unicoi battled back and secured the win in the final seconds with two free throws.

Lyon had a team-high 11 points, while Brittany Campbell had eight points.
