The Lady Warriors punched their ticket to the regional tournament in a big way on Tuesday night.
Happy Valley softball earned a trip to the Region 1-AA tournament with a pair of victories in the losers’ bracket with wins over Sullivan South 12-2 and Elizabethton 5-1.
The Lady Warriors moves on to the championship game on Wednesday at 6 p.m., against Unicoi County, while the loss ends the Elizabethton season with a 25-13 mark.
Against Sullivan South, Happy Valley put six runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back en route to the 12-2 win. Kenzie Davis led the Lady Warriors with four RBIs, and four Happy Valley players added two hits apiece in the win.
In the losers’ bracket finale, Kalee Johnson pitched a gem to power Happy Valley to the win as she allowed two hits with four strikeouts in a complete game. Offensively, Johnson added two hits.
Happy Valley struck first in the bottom of the first inning with two runs. After the next two innings went scoreless, the Lady Warriors added two runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Cyclones got on the first in the fifth inning, but the Lady Warriors added a run in the sixth to secure the win and advance.
The District 1-AA Softball Championship game is set for 6 p.m., at Happy Valley on Wednesday.
