Happy Valley splits thrillers with Grainger

Happy Valley kicked off the home portion of the schedule with a pair of thrillers on Thursday.

The Lady Warriors went toe-to-toe with perennial power Grainger before falling 50-49 in a heartbreaker, while the Warriors had to work overtime to capture a 67-63 win over the Grizzlies.

In the girls’ game, the Lady Warriors found themselves in a hole by trailing 19-8 after a quarter of play. However, Happy Valley battled back to take a 27-26 lead, and held a 35-32 lead at the end of three.

Kalee Johnson recorded 18 points, eight rounds and four steals in the game, and Charli Bare added 11 points and six rebounds. Emily Whitaker scored 10 points in the game.

In the nightcap, the teams battled back and forth throughout the night. Chris Young sunk a pair of free throws to force overtime, and added five points in the extra period to power the Warriors to the win.

Austin Hicks led the way with 19 points, while Young finished with 14 points.
