Happy Valley saw both the boys and girls basketball teams fall short in their Three Rivers Conference opener at Unicoi on Friday night.
The Warriors dropped a 73-46 decision to the Blue Devils, while the Lady Warriors fell 58-35.
In the boys’ game, Happy Valley erased an early deficit to tie the game at 20-20 with just over a minute to play in the second quarter. A late Unicoi bucket gave UC a 22-20 lead at the half.
Unicoi, however, pushed ahead with a quick start to the third quarter. From there, they never looked back.
Brayden Sams had a team-high 10 points in the game.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Warriors were unable to shake off a slow start. Unicoi took a 12-4 lead at the end of the first. HV continued to fight, but was unable to make a run at the Lady Blue Devils.
Adrienne Henegar and Kaitlyn Roberts had nine points apiece.
