The Warriors proved defense won games in a big way on Friday night.
Happy Valley cruised to a 62-0 victory over Unicoi County in the home opener on Warrior Hill. The win moves the Warriors to 3-0 on the season.
In the win, HV forced five turnovers en route to scoring 62 points in the opening 16 minutes.
Dustun Sams put HV on the board first with a 16-yard run. The opening defensive possession saw Skylar Hyatt jump in front of a Blue Devil pass for a pick-six as HV quickly increased their lead to 13-0.
The Warrior special teams made a mark on the next Unicoi possession as a blocked punt was recovered by Brayden Sams for the touchdown. The 2-point conversion pushed the HV lead to 21-0 with seven minutes to play in the first quarter.
From there, Happy Valley left no doubt.
Sage Haun hit B. Sams for a 23-yard touchdown pass, while Dylan Street took a punt return back to the house to give the Warriors a 35-0 advantage at the half.
Haun scored on a 1-yard run to open the second quarter after Sams recorded a 26-yard run to set HV up in striking distance. After Jacob Surcey intercepted another Blue Devil pass, Street increased the lead to 49-0 with a touchdown from seven yards out.
Austin Hicks tacked on a five-yard touchdown run while Haun added a sneak to cap off the scoring 20 seconds before the half.
Sams finished with 90 yards on 7 carries, while Hicks added six carries for 64 yards. Street edged past the century mark with all-purpose yards.
Happy Valley returns to action next Friday by hosting Cosby for a regional clash.
