The Happy Valley defense left no doubt on Friday night.
The Warriors pitched a shutout with a 22-0 victory over Oneida in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to advance to the second round. Happy Valley will travel to Meigs County for the second round.
HV struck early to take control.
After the Warrior defense forced Oneida off the field in three plays, Josh Hyatt jumped in front of the ensuing punt and picked it up for a scoop and score. Brayden Sams slipped a shovel pass to Dakota Cochran for the conversion as HV took an early 8-0 lead.
Neither team was able to get anything going until the Warriors found a treat off a trick midway through the second.
Noah Stevens caught a lateral from Sams and then threw the ball to Will Tittle for a 24-yard touchdown. Same added the conversion to give HV a 16-0 lead at the half.
HV’s defense held strong to keep the Oneida offense stymied and the Warriors iced the win when Sams found Cochran for a 9-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Sams went 9-of-16 passing for 58 yards as well 61 yards rushing. Cochran tallied 14 carries for 87 yards.
