Of all the nominees, there was one that stood out above the rest.
Happy Valley’s Kalee Johnson was selected as the 2016 Carter County Sports Female Athlete of the Year as the three-sport star edged the most talented group of athletes.
Johnson, who has signed with NCAA Division II UVA-Wise, was a leader on the golf course, basketball court and softball field for the Lady Warriors. In addition to becoming the leading scorer in program history, Johnson was named an All-State selection for the second consecutive season.
The senior was also named to the All-District team in Basketball and softball.
