Lady Buffs softball dropped in opening AAC tourney game

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (April 21, 2015) – Upsets were the norm for the first two games of the Appalachian Athletic Conference softball tournament, but the Milligan College softball team was unable to find an upset of their own as they lost to Bryan College 10-0 on Tuesday evening at Domtar Park in Kingsport. The Lady Buffs will face Truett-McConnell at 1 p.m., on Tuesday in an elimination game.

However, solid pitching from Kaitie Sims, the AAC Pitcher of the Year, doomed Milligan to only one hit over five innings. That hit came in the form of a double to deep left-center from Makenzie Lilley in the top of the fifth, but a strikeout and a pop-up in foul territory left her stranded at second.

The Lions, who are the two-seed and ended the regular season by receiving votes in the national poll, scored a run in every inning except the second, ending the game with a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth.

The opening day of the tournament featured two major upsets as No. 5 seed St. Andrews (N.C.) defeated No. 4 seed Union (Ky.) 7-1 and No. 8 seed Columbia (S.C.) followed with an 8-0 routing of No. 1 seed Reinhardt.
