Hampton spoiled the party on Friday night in Roan Mountain.

The Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs picked up wins over Cloudland on senior night inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium. Hampton saw the girl’s team take a 37-34 victory over the Lady ‘Landers, while the Bulldogs pulled away for a 58-44 win over CHS.

In the girls’ game, Jasmine Birchfield hit a pair of buckets to help Cloudland take a 9-4 lead after a quarter of play, and Trinity Vines hit back-to-back shots to open the second as CHS opened up a 16-8 advantage. After the teams went scoreless for over three minutes, Hampton’s Stephanie Campbell and Brooke Hughes hit shots to close the gap to 16-13 at the half.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth battle, and Hampton tied the game at the buzzer off a Shy Tuelle 3-pointer. Stacia Wilson hit shots to get Cloudland back into the game, but the Lady ‘Landers were unable to complete the rally.

Campbell had 15 points to lead all scorers, while Tuelle tossed in 13 points.

Cloudland was paced by Vines’ 13 points. Wilson added 11 points to the CHS cause.

In the boys’ game, Cloudland took an early lead as they held Hampton scoreless for nearly the first five minutes of the game. After CHS held a 9-8 lead after eight minutes of play, Hunter Davenport put the Bulldogs in front to open the second with back-to-back buckets.

Hampton slowly extended the lead to take a 25-18 advantage at the half.

The third quarter saw Cloudland slowly cut into the deficit as CHS trailed 34-30 powered by a trio of buckets from Robert Leeper. Hampton ended the stanza on a quick 5-0 run and kept the run going to open the fourth. In all, the Bulldogs reeled off 17 straight points to take control for good.
