The Lady Bulldogs knew that University High was capable of an upset. However, Hampton made sure they weren’t going to fall victim.
Alexus Grubbs scored 22 points to help Hampton record a 66-28 victory over the Lady Bucs on Friday night in Hampton. The Lady Bucs were coming off of Tuesday’s upset of Cloudland.
Kim Swearingen scored six first quarter points and the Lady Bulldogs limited University High to just two field goals to take a 18-10 lead into the second quarter. Grubbs took control of the game in the second quarter as she tallied 15 points in the frame alone as the Lady Bulldogs rolled to a 44-19 lead at the half.
Six Lady Bulldogs recorded points in the third quarter to help Hampton outscore University High 17-6 in the third quarter, and both teams saw younger players get action in the final stanza.
Swearingen talled 10 points in the game, including her 1,000th point. Megan Garland scored seven points n the game.
University High was paced by Lexie Cruthers 15 points.
