Lady Cyclones dispatch East to win Holiday Classic

The Lady Cyclones will head into Christmas as champions.

Elizabethton slowly pulled away from Sullivan East to take an 87-67 victory over Sullivan East on Wednesday night in the Doc Maples Christmas Classic Championship game at Tennessee High.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle as neither team was able to pull away. Elizabethton stretched out a 21-18 lead entering the second quarter. Kayla Marosites and Emily Schubert had big shots for the Lady Cyclones in the second quarter as EHS pushed the lead out to a 42-30 lead at the half.

The third quarter saw Elizabethton outscore Sullivan East 24-18 to extend the lead to 18 points. From there, the Lady Cyclones kept the Lady Patriots at bay to take the win.

Tournament MVP Marosites scored 30 points to pace all scorers, while Emily Kiser had 21 points. Kelci Marosites added 17 points. Schubert tallied 13 points in the game.

Ka. Marosites was joined by Kiser on the All-Tournament team.

Kara Stafford and Brandy Watkins had 21 and 17 points, respectively, to pace Sullivan East.

Elizabethton will return to action at the Carolina Invitational in Charleston.
