Elizabethton’s debut in the TSSAA Class AA Softball tournament didn’t go as planned.

The Lady Cyclones were unable to keep pace in a 6-0 loss to Greenbrier in the opening round of the state tournament.

EHS will take on Sweetwater on Wednesday in an elimination game at 10 a.m. CST.

The Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Lauren Brickey got on base in the bottom of the first for Elizabethton, but EHS was unable to plate the run. Neither team was able to get anything going in the second.

Despite Abbi McKinney hitting a two-out single, Elizabethton went quietly in the bottom of the third. Greenbrier increased the lead to 5-0 in the top of the fourth.

In the sixth, the Lady Cyclones got Macie Herrmann and McKinney on base with no outs. EHS, however, were unable to continue the rally in the frame.

After Greenbrier extended the lead to 6-0 in the top of the seventh, Autumn Hensley got on base with a single. That proved to be the only hit in the frame.

McKinney led the way as she went 2-for-3 at the plate. Kira Dillard went 1-for-2, while Hensley and Brickey went 1-for-3.

Brickey was handed the loss as she allowed five earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts.
