Elizabethton came up short in quest for Murfreesboro on Friday night.
The Lady Cyclones saw defending state champion Gibbs rally in the fourth to take an 8-3 victory in Class AA Softball sectional action. The loss ends an incredible season for Elizabethton one game shy of the state tournament with a 25-15 record.
Lauren Brickey helped Elizabethton start the game in style as her two-run homerun gave the Lady Cyclones a 2-0 lead after the first half inning. The Lady Eagles, however, got one run back in the home side to close the gap to 2-1.
After a lengthy lightning delay, Kira Dillard pushed the EHS lead to 3-1 with an RBI single in the top of the fourth. Gibbs answered quickly and decisively as they scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth. That proved to be the difference.
The loss marks the end of a legendary career for Elizabethton’s four seniors in Lauren Brickey, Maci West, Kellie Cunningham and Macie Herrman.
