Cloudland took care of a business trip on Friday night.

The Lady ‘Landers opened the Region 1-A tournament with a 53-45 victory over Greenback. With the win, Cloudland moves into Monday’s semifinals against North Greene. That contest will be at 6 p.m., at Cocke County High School.

CHS set the tone early against the host Lady Cherokees.

Trinity Vines scored eight points in the opening frame to help Cloudland leg out to a 17-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Stacia Wilson took over in the second quarter as she scored all 11 Cloudland points in the stanza, but CHS saw Greenback cut into the lead.

The Lady ‘Landers maintained a 28-21 advantage at the half.

In the third quarter, neither team was able to get much offense going as they played fairly even. After Cloudland took a 35-29 lead into the final eight minutes, the Lady ‘Landers kept the Lady Cherokees at bay. CHS scored 18 points in the quarter – with 14 of them coming from the free throw line.

Wilson had 20 points to lead Cloudland, while Vines finished with 12 points. Jasmine Birchfield – who scored seven points in the fourth quarter – finished with 11 points total. Megan Lunsford and Kenzie Birchfield had six points and four points, respectively.

Megan Lemons led Greenback with 18 points.
