Lady ‘Landers fall in semis

A night after pulling out an overtime victory, the Cloudland girls were unable to keep the magic on Saturday.

The Lady ‘Landers were unable to keep pace with No. 1 South Greene in the District 1-A Girls semifinals at Daniel Boone High School. Cloudland will play in Monday’s consolation game again the loser of the No. 2 Hampton and No. 3 North Greene contest.

In the opening quarter, Payton Johnson made a turnaround jumper to even the score at 2-2, but the Lady Rebels went on a 6-0 run. Faith Russell put Cloudland back on the board and Kendall Mull added a trey, but South Greene maintained a 12-7 lead at the end of the quarter.

After DonRae Taylor hit a field goal to open the second period, the Lady Rebels took advantage of a 13-2 run to pull away from the Lady ‘Landers. A Lisa Ellis trey snapped the run and Mull added a pair of free throws. However, South Greene held a 31-15 lead at the half.

The teams traded shots to open the third quarter as Cloudland saw Mull and Johnson put points on the board. South Greene, however, used a quick 12-2 run to take control of the game again that allowed them to pull out to a 55-24 advantage at the end of the third.

Mull scored 10 points in the final quarter, and Patricia Singleton scored six points in the frame. However, it was too much for Cloudland to overcome.

Mull finished with 17 points to pace the Lady ‘Landers, while Johnson tallied eight points. Singleton finished with six points.

Taylor Lamb scored 19 points to pace South Greene, while three Lady Rebels scored 10 points apiece.
