It was a battle on Stoney Creek Tuesday afternoon.

Unaka softball edged Cloudland 3-0 in a district contest that was called in sixth inning due to weather.

The Lady Rangers got on the board in the home side of the first and added single runs in the bottom of the third and the fourth. Cloudland was unable to bring a run across despite a hard-fought effort before the rains came.

Erica Potter was 2-for-3 – including a solo homerun – to lead the Lady Rangers at the plate, while Madison Pierce, Katlyn Weaver, Lilly Kiser and Sidney Markland added a hit apiece.

For Cloudland, Marley Hughes and Leah Birchfield were both 1-for-2.

In the pitching circle, Corie Scheuttler picked up the win for Unaka as she went the distance recording 12 strikeouts and allowing just two hits.

Kenzie Birchfield pitched a strong game for Cloudland but was handed the loss.
