For two and a half quarters, Unaka was in prime position to capture the District 1-A crown. North Greene, however, had another plan.

The Lady Rangers were unable to answer a late North Greene burst as they dropped a 42-33 decision to the Lady Huskies in the championship game of the District 1-A tournament at Daniel Boone.

Unaka will host Washburn on Friday night in the opening round of the Region 1-A tournament.

On Tuesday night, the Lady Rangers went toe-to-toe.

After North Greene opened up to a 4-0 lead, Myah Parlier and Lexi Garland hit shots to tie the game. Parlier found a groove as she shot the Lady Rangers into the lead before NG tied it right before the end of the quarter. Parlier had 11 points in the first quarter alone.

The teams traded shots throughout the second quarter. Unaka took a 22-21 advantage going to the half after Erika Potter hit a bucket.

Potter pushed Unaka back in front early in the third quarter to answer a NG shot. The Lady Huskies, however, found the momentum in the middle of the third quarter. A 12-3 North Greene run over the final six minute gave NG a 35-27 lead going to the final quarter.
Sarah Tipton and Parlier hit shots to open the final stanza and pull the Lady Rangers back within five points. The Lady Huskies, however, countered and held on for the win despite a hard-fought Unaka effort.

Parlier had 19 points to lead the way for Unaka. Potter added six points.
