The Unaka girls basketball program found the cruise control on Tuesday night.

The Lady Rangers cruised to a 51-19 19 victory over University High in District 1-A play at Brooks Gym. In the boys’ game, the Rangers were unable to keep pace with the torrid Buc offense in an 81-37 loss.

For the Lady Rangers, Myah Parlier and Lexi Garland scored four points apiece in the first quarter to power UHS to an 11-7 lead. The second quarter saw Erika Potter score six points while the Lady Ranger defense held UH to just three points. That allowed Unaka to take a 23-10 lead into the half.

From there, it was all Unaka as the Lady Rangers outscored UH 22-9 over the last two quarters.

Parlier had 19 points, while Potter had 10 points. Cydney Forney had eight points.

In the boys’ game, Unaka was able to stay within striking distance thanks to three first-quarter 3-pointers. After UH took a 20-15 lead into the second quarter, Unaka saw a Buc run push the advantage to 39-27 at the half.

In the second half, points were hard to come by for the Rangers as UH quickly pushed out the lead to secure the win.

Will Sexton had nine points to lead the Rangers, while Austin Drew and Ryan Johnson had six points apiece.
