Unaka made things interesting against Class AAA’s Dobyns-Bennett.

The Lady Rangers trailed 10-7 at the end of the first but were unable to kick things into high-gear, dropping a 51-27 affair against the Lady Indians in the opening game for the Johnson City Honda Trailblazer Classic on Friday.

Madison Ensor and Katlyn Burrow drilled a pair of two pointers while Cheyenne Drew tacked on a three-pointer to put a scare into Dobyns-Bennett in the first period.

The Lady Indians defense began to tighten in the fourth, limiting the Lady Rangers to just four points and led at halftime 23-11.

While Dobyns-Bennett controlled the tempo, forward Sierra Wright opened things up in the second half with four points, six rebounds and a pair of steals.

Unaka added 10 points in the third but had trouble stopping Lady Indian standout Sasha Morrisette, who tallied double figure scoring and drives into the paint.

Drew led the Lady Rangers with seven points. Renya Austin added four points while Katlyn Weaver and Lexi Garland added two points each.

Ashley Doss a trio of rebounds and two steals for the Lady Ranger defense.

The Lady Rangers will meet Volunteer with a 1:30 p.m. tip-off set for Saturday. Hampton and Cloudland will enter the tournament during tomorrow’s second day of action.
