Lady Warriors claim third in District 1-AA tournament

The Lady Warriors got their groove back.

Happy Valley pulled away early in the fourth quarter and never looked back as they took a 54-35 victory over Unicoi County in the District 1-AA consolation game at Sullivan South.

The Lady Warriors will travel to Chuckey-Doak on Friday to open the Region 1-A tournament.

On Monday, it was a back-and-forth affair early on. Kale Johnson scored seven first-quarter points as HV held a slim 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. Despite three Lady Blue Devil 3-pointers, Happy Valley edged the lead out in the second quarter behind six points from freshman Bayley McGee. The Lady Warriors held a 28-23 advantage at the half.

Adrienne Henegar scored five points as the Lady Warriors continued to slowly extend the lead in the third. Kaitlyn Roberts added a trey as HV took a 38-30 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Lady Warriors. Happy Valley limited Unicoi to just five points in the final stanza, while five Lady Warriors reached the scorebook.

Johnson led HV with 16 points, while Roberts, Henegar and McGee added nine points apiece.
