Cloudland hosted Senior Night festivities on Friday night, but Copper Basin looked to spoil the party.

The ‘Landers held off an upset-minded Copper Basin squad as CHS picked up a 26-20 win at Orr Field to close out the regular season. Cloudland finishes the regular season with an 8-2 record.

Triston Lacy struck quickly for the ‘Landers.

Lacy picked up the opening kickoff and took off as he raced 78 yards for a touchdown as CHS took an early 6-0 lead.

After the Cougars recovered a Cloudland fumble to get great field position, Keaton Mickens tied the game up with a 1-yard touchdown run and then gave CB a 12-6 lead going into the second with another short touchdown.

Cloudland continued to struggle to get anything going offensively until taking advantage of a Copper Basin miscue late in the half.

Coffey gave Cloudland a 14-12 lead at the half with a 2-yard touchdown run with 16.2 seconds remaining in the half.

The Cougars saw a touchdown on the second-half kickoff waived off due to a penalty, but it didn’t phase them as Chance Bailey broke free through the line and raced 68-yards for the touchdown. The two-point conversion gave CB a 20-14 lead two minutes into the half.

Cloudland, however, answered with a methodical drive that was capped off by a Coffey touchdown from 32 yards out that tied the game at 20-20.

Jacob Singleton intercepted a pass for Cloudland on the ensuing drive, but Cloudland was unable to capitalize. After the ‘Landers saw a Connor Birchfield punt return for a touchdown erased by a penalty, CHS began another methodical drive that was capped off by a Malachi Benfield touchdown from 22 yards out. That gave CHS a 26-20 lead with 10:17 left to play in the game.

The Cloudland defense rose to the occasion as they limited Copper Basin the rest of the way to secure the game.

Coffey finished with 158 yards on 29 carries, while Benfield had 46 yards on 13 carries. Josh Blair had 10 carries for 33 yards.
