The Cloudland boys’ team sent a message to the rest of the conference on Thursday night.
The ‘Landers took a 75-48 over the defending District 1-A champion South Greene on Rebel Hill. The Lady ‘Landers were unable to keep pace with the high-powered attack of the Lady Rebels in a 74-45 loss.
The Cloudland boys’ squad opened the game strong as they rolled to 21-13 first quarter lead, and outscored the Rebels 22-12 in the second quarter to take a 43-25 lead at the half. Cloudland hit eight 3-pointers in the first two quarters.
The ‘Landers kept their foot on the pedal in the second half by outscoring South Greene 32-23 over the final 16 minutes.
Colby BIrchfield led the way with a game-high 23 points, while Jesse Potter added 13 points. Dalton Vines and Chris Wagoner had 12 points apiece.
Zack Babb recorded 23 points to pace South Greene.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Rebels opened the game by running out to a 22-12 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. South Greene held a 46-15 lead at half.
Payton Johnson came alive in the second half for Cloudland, but the Lady ‘Landers were unable to mount a rally.
Johnson led the way with 15 points, while Shian Strickland and Megan Lunsford had nine points apiece. Trinity Vines tallied seven points. Johanna Johnson added five points for the Lady ‘Landers.
Taylor Lamb had 28 points to lead South Greene.
