Week 1 is finally here.
We take a look at the games and the keys for each game featuring Carter County teams tonight.
Northview Academy at Cloudland, Roan Mountain
Records: Cloudland (0-0), Northview (0-0)
Key for Cloudland: Find the offensive attack
The ‘Landers open 2015 with a first-time opponent in Northview Academy. The Cougars are making their varsity debut in the game after fielding a JV and freshman team last year. Cloudland, who switched the offensive attack late in fall camp, will need to keep things rolling offensively, while being able to adjust to anything that Northview throws at them.
Hampton at Avery County (N.C.), Newland, N.C.
Records: Hampton (0-0), Avery County (0-0)
Key for Hampton: Contain Avery’s Quarterback
Hampton is no stranger to powerful offenses as the Bulldogs’ own fits that mold. That said, the Bulldogs will need to contain Viking QB Luke Crowe. Crowe showed in the jamboree last week that he can gain yards with his feet as well as his arm. While Avery has some other offensive weapons, the Bulldogs will be able to set the tempo if they can keep Crowe in the pocket.
North Greene at Unaka, Stoney Creek
Records: Unaka (0-0), North Greene (0-0)
Key for Unaka: Find an offensive rhythm
The Rangers will need to find their offensive rhythm as they welcome a solid North Greene squad for the season opener. Unaka has two solid options at quarterback, and it goes without saying that is where the offense will start. The Rangers defense showed signs of promise against Avery County in last week’s jamboree and should continue that momentum into Friday night’s game.
