Lunsford earns Player of the Week for Week 1

Jerry Lunsford started the season off in style on Friday night. For his performance, the Hampton senior has been named the Climate Controller’s Player of the Week for the Week 1.

Lunsford tallied 196 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns. In addition, he had three catches for 51 yards a score, and also added 22 return yards for a total of 269 all-purpose yards. On defense, he added three tackles, including one for loss.

It is the second consecutive year that Lunsford has claimed the Player of the Week honors for the first week of the season. Lunsford narrowly edged out his teammate Adam McClain (142 yards on 13 carries with four touchdowns in the first 15 minutes of the game) and Cloudland’s Austin Whitehead (25 carries for 196 yards).

Lunsford and company host Johnson County on Friday night.
