Wyatt Lyons wasn’t ready for Hampton’s season to end.
The senior pitcher struck out 17 batters to power the Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory over Northview Academy to advance to the Region 1-A Baseball Championship game as well as the substate round.
Hampton will travel to North Greene on Wednesday with the Region 1-A title, as well as a home substate game, on the line.
The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth as Gavin Hardin pushed the game’s first run across the plate. After the Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, David Fleenor delivered the game-winning run with a single.
Lyons allowed just four hits in the game to go along with the 17 strikeouts.
