Tuesday saw one county team punch a ticket to sectionals, while another fought tooth and nail before darkness took hold. We take a look at all the action from Tuesday in the morning report.

Volleyball

The Elizabethton volleyball team kept the season going on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Cyclones dispatched Greeneville 3-1 (28-30, 25-10, 25-11, 25-17) to advance to the Region 1-AA championship match as well as the sectional round.  Elizabethton, however, was unable to to keep the momentum rolling the championship match against Sullivan South as they fell 3-0.

The Lady Cyclones will travel to Knoxville Catholic on Thursday for the substate match with a trip to the state tournament on the line. Game time in Knoxville is set for 7 p.m.

Soccer

Four overtimes wasn’t enough until darkness took over.

The Elizabethton soccer team ended Wednesday in a 1-1 draw after four overtimes on Tuesday in the District 1-A/AA tournament semifinals. The teams will meet at Sullivan South on Wednesday at 3 p.m., for penalty kicks.

The winner will advance to play University High on Thursday in the District 1-A/AA Championship match at Summers-Taylor Stadium on the campus of ETSU as well as secure a Region 1-A/AA berth.

University High advanced by taking a 10-0 win over Happy Valley. The Lady Warriors were unable to keep pace with the top-seeded Lady Jr. Bucs in the match at Civitan Park.

Golf

Elizabethton junior Christopher Schaff fired an 86 to tie for 48th after the first round in the TSSAA Class A-AA State Championship.

Sullivan South’s Seth Worley was tied for second after the first round with Lipscomb’s Davis Armstrong leading the way.

Schaff is scheduled to go off at 9:30 a.m. CT on Wednesday for round 2.
