Good Wednesday!!! (We are a tad late for good morning!)

It is hard to believe that the District tournaments start tonight. It seems just like yesterday that we were getting set to get the season started. Only one county team, the Elizabethton boys, open postseason action tonight as they take on Sullivan North at Sullivan East in the District 1-AA tournament.

During the regular season, the Cyclones swept the Black Raiders with wins of 80-52 and 68-59. The winner will advance to play either Sullivan East or Happy Valley on Saturday. A win tonight will also punch a ticket to the Regional tournament.

The Happy Valley girls will be the next county team in action as they open the District 1-AA tournament on Thursday night against Sullivan South. Both Cloudland and Unaka squads open the District 1-A tournament on Friday, while the Elizabethton girls and both Hampton teams open play on Saturday. Complete brackets can be found here.

It is a busy time of year, and it will be a great weekend of basketball.

As far as advancing to the regional tournament, the top four teams from each district tournament will advance. With that said, Elizabethton girls, Hampton boys and Hampton girls have all clinched an all-important regional berth. We also know that either Cloudland girls or Unaka girls will advance while the other’s season will come to a close on Friday night since they square off against each other. Everyone else must win their first game to continue their season.

It is also hard to believe that spring sports have begun official practice. The weekend weather was a great remainder that spring is coming. On that note, we need schedules and rosters for all spring sports across the county. We would appreciate if you could send those to [email protected] if you have those completed.

Have a great day!
