Elizabethton softball edges past South

The Elizabethton softball team opened the 2016 season at home on Tuesday with a 4-2 victory over Sullivan South.

The Lady Cyclones scored a run in the bottom of the first, but Sullivan South evened the score in the top of the third. After the teams traded runs in the bottom of fourth and top of the fifth, Elizabethton secured the win with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Abbi McKinney went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Lady Cyclones, while Macie Herrmann also added two hits.

Kelli Cunningham got the win for Elizabethton in the circle with a complete game effort recording six strikeouts.

Elizabethton returns to action on Wednesday against Gate City.
