The Cloudland spring sports picked up a pair of wins on Wednesday in Roan Mountain.
The Lady ‘Landers softball program took a 3-2 victory over University High, while the ‘Landers baseball squad picked up their second straight win with a 6-5 victory over Avery County (N.C.).
On the softball diamond, Cloudland erased a two-run deficit in the third as Marlee Hughes and Macy Markland crossed home plate to tie the game at 2-2. In the fifth, the Lady ‘Landers scored off a UH error to take the lead for good.
Kenzie Birchfield struck out 11 UH batters while allowing just two runs.
On the baseball field, the ‘Landers battled back to take the win – one night after dispatching Hancock County – on senior night.
Mark Tester struck out 13 batters to power CHS to the win. The ‘Landers open the District 1-A tournament on Friday at David Crockett.
