Prep Roundup: Cloudland sweeps, Lady Warriors pull away

The prep basketball season tipped off on Tuesday night with Hall of Champions action, and both the Cloudland boys and girls along with the Happy Valley ladies opened with victories.

Cloudland 67, West Greene 46 (Boys)
Preston Benfield scored 20 points to pace Cloudland past West Greene. The ‘Landers jumped out early, and secured the win with a strong second half. Colby Birchfield tallied 11 points.

Jesse Potter and Josh Blair had seven points apiece for Cloudland. West Greene was led by Jordan Fuller’s 17 points.

Cloudland 55, West Greene 36 (Girls)
Payton Johnson and the Lady ‘Landers kicked off the Lucas Andrews’ era in style with a 55-36 victory at West Greene in Hall of Champions action on Tuesday night.

Johnson tallied 16 points in the game.

The Lady ‘Landers held a 12-8 advantage after a quarter of play, and held a slim 25-21 lead at the break.

CHS outscored the Lady Buffaloes 15-6 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Lisa Ellis recorded 11 points for the Cloudland cause, while Shian Strickland tallied eight points. Trinity Vines and Erin Julian had six points apiece.

Happy Valley 54, Volunteer 46 (Girls)
The Lady Warriors saw Kalee Johnson tally 15 points and 12 rebounds to power HV to a 54-46 victory. In addition, Johnson tallied five steals and two blocks.

After the game was tied at 23-23 at the break, Happy Valley took control of the game. Caitlyn Roberts and Charli Bare had 11 and nine points, respectively.

Bare added eight rebounds for the Lady Warriors.
