Of all the thrilling games this year, one winner take all matchup stood above the rest.

Unaka baseball captured the District 1-A title with a thrilling 4-2 victory over South Greene at Tusculum College in the 2016 Best of Carter County Sports Male Game of the Year.

After the Rangers fell 10-4 in the night’s first game, Unaka had seven innings of work standing between them and the District 1-A title.

In the final game, Unaka had to dig themselves out of an early hole.

After a scoreless first inning, South Greene took a 2-0 lead in the visitors side of the second. The Rangers trimmed the lead with a run in the home side of the frame.

Unaka jumped into the lead in the next inning with textbook baseball. The Rangers put two runs on the board as Austin Kings and Dakota Gallimore touched home plate. Abram Hill scored the game’s final run in the sixth after a Blake King single.

The Rebels, however, didn’t go down without a fight. South Greene loaded the bases with two outs, but the Ranger defense held on for the win.

On the mound, John Boy Ramsey picked up the win with an impressive complete game effort as he allowed just five hits.
