The Unaka boys’ basketball team came up short on Friday night.
The Rangers saw their season come to a close with a 75-59 loss to University High in the first round of the District 1-A tournament at Daniel Boone High School.
In the first quarter, Unaka had to battle back.
The Rangers saw UH jump out to a 12-5 lead with all five Ranger points coming from Isaac Hill. Unaka, however, settled down and cut the lead to three points in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
Later in the second quarter, Justin Houghton added a basket that cut the UH lead to 19-18 with just under three minutes to play. University High answered with a quick run and took a 30-23 advantage into the second half.
In the third quarter, Unaka kept attacking but was unable to make any headway into the deficit. UH maintained a 51-35 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Hill led Unaka with 29 points. Blake King added 13 points to the Ranger cause.
