Three county teams ranked in AP Poll

Three county teams continued to be ranked inside the Tennessee AP Prep Football Top 10.

In Class 4A, Elizabethton moved put to two spots to No. 4. The Cyclones tallied 117 points – 18 points behind No. 3 Anderson County – after dispatching Tennessee High on Friday night.


Greeneville remained ranked No. 1 with 16 of 17 first-place votes. Crockett County came in second in the poll.

In Class 2A, Happy Valley moved a spot to No. 6 after Friday’s victory over Cloudland. The Warriors tallied 92 points just 14 points behind No. 5 Lewis County. HV recorded two first-place votes.

Meigs County was ranked first with Union City and Columbia Academy coming in No. 2 and No. 3.

In Class A, Cloudland fell two spots into a tie for No. 9 with Cornersville. The ‘Landers tallied 32 points in the poll.

South Pittsburg remained ranked atop the poll with Huntingdon and Whitwell being ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Other local teams ranked include Science Hill (No. 8 in Class 6A), Daniel Boone (No. 9 in Class 5A) and Johnson County (No.3  in Class 3A).
