Three county teams ranked in AP poll

Carter County continued to be well-represented in the Tennessee AP Prep Football poll.

In Class 4A, Elizabethton stayed steady in the No. 6 spot. The Cyclones, who beat Daniel Boone on Friday, recorded 88 points – just one point shy of No. 5 Marshall County.


No. 1 Greeneville was a unanimous No. 1 selection, while Crockett County and Anderson County rounded out the top three.

Happy Valley jumped three spots to No. 7. The Warriors tallied 53 points in the poll after pulling away from Unicoi County.

No. 1 Meigs County took over the top spot after Marion County fell to No. 5. No. 2 Union City and No. 3 Trousdale County rounded out the top three.

In Class A, No. 8 Cloudland also improved a spot from No. 9 after beating Avery County. The ‘Landers tallied 39 points. No. 1 South Pittsburgh, No. 2 Dresden and No. 3 Huntingdon stayed steady on top of the poll.

Other local teams ranked included Science Hill (No. 8 in Science Hill), Daniel Boone (No. 6 in Class 5A) and Johnson County (No. 4 in Class 3A).
