The TSSAA has approved the new 6-class plan for football classification for the remainder of the current classification period. Starting next season, the top 32 schools in enrollment will play in 6A, while Classes 1-5 will go back to the former region format.

In June, the Knoxville News-Sentinel took a look at what the classes would look like using the current enrollment numbers. The projected Region 1-1A would feature Cloudland, Hancock County, North Greene and Unaka, while Region 1-2A would have Cosby, Cumberland Gap, Hampton, Happy Valley, South Greene and Sullivan North. Elizabethton would be joined by Chuckey-Doak, Greeneville, Unicoi County and West Greene in Region 1-3A.

The classes will be set later this fall after all schools report their new enrollment numbers. The new 6A as well as the new regions will be voted on during the November Board of Control meeting.
