The Unaka softball team took care of business on Tuesday.

The Lady Rangers took a 3-0 victory over Gibson County in the Class A State Tournament in Murfreesboro.

With the win, the Lady Rangers advance to move into the winner’s bracket semifinals against the winner of Sale Creek and Houston County at 5:30 CDT on Wednesday.

After the game was delayed for just over 40 minutes due to weather, Unaka wasted no time getting things started. UHS saw Madison Pierce pushed Sarah Tipton across home plate, and Katlyn Weaver plated Pierce as Unaka took a 2-0 lead into the second inning.

After Corie Schuettler and the UHS defense retired Gibson Co. in order in the top of the second, a Pierce double scored Tipton to give Unaka a 3-0 advantage.

Neither team was able to get on the board the rest of the way as Unaka secured the win.

Pierce was 3-for-3 at the plate, while Sydney Markland, Tayla Potter, Savannah Tipton, Sar. Tipton and Weaver each had a hit apiece.

In the pitching circle, Schuettler pitched a gem as she pitched the shutout as she allowed just seven hits with five strikeouts.
