Unaka looks to return to the TSSAA playoffs as they are coming off a 4-7 campaign. The Rangers, who started the year 1-6, won their last three regular season games to make the playoffs, but they were unable to make a run as they fell to Midway, who dispatched Cloudland in the second round, in the first round.

 

Friday, August 22 – at Oliver Springs
The Rangers will open the 2014 season with the first of two road games as they head to Oliver Springs. The Bobcats went 5-5 last year, including a 40-0 victory over the Rangers on Stoney Creek. In conference, Oliver Springs went 3-3 with losses to the top three teams in the conference (Coalfield, Onieda and Sunbright).

Friday, August 29 – at Sullivan East
The second road game of the year for the Rangers will be a shorter one as they head to Sullivan East. The Patriots are coming off a 1-9 season, and the Rangers look to avenge last season’s home loss to Sullivan East.

Friday, September 5 – Hampton
Unaka opens the home slate in style as they will also conference foe Hampton. The Bulldogs went 7-4 last season after starting off 0-2. The Bulldogs rallied to win the conference crown, including a 48-6 victory over the Rangers, but fell in the second round of the TSSAA playoffs in two overtimes.

Friday, September 19 – at Cloudland
The Rangers return to the road as they make the short trip to Roan Mountain for another conference clash. Cloudland is the second 2013 playoff team to dot the Unaka schedule as they started the year 9-0 before losing the season finale to Hampton and Midway in the second round of the TSSAA Playoffs. The ‘Landers return a strong nucleus of position players from the team that took a 45-21 win on Stoney Creek last season.

Friday, September 26 – Hancock County
Unaka will play their third straight conference game as they welcome the Indians of Hancock County. The Rangers saw Eli Rasnick go 8-for-12 passing for 175 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing score to propel Unaka to a 27-7 victory last season.  Hancock County finished the year 0-10.

Friday, October 3 – Avery County (NC)
The Rangers return to nonconference play as North Carolina foe Avery County will make the drive to Stoney Creek. The Vikings return standout quarterback Tre Jackson, who led Avery to a 51-0 victory last season, from a 5-8 squad. Avery qualified for the NCHSA Playoffs and recorded a first round victory before falling in the second round.

Friday, October 10 – at South Greene
Unaka will hit the road to Greene County for a conference clash with South Greene. The Rebels are entering their second season in the Mountain East Conference after going 4-6 last season. South Greene recorded a 40-0 victory over the Rangers last season.

Friday, October 17 – Tri-Cities Christian
The Rangers will host wrap up nonconference play with the Eagles of Tri-Cities Christian. Last season, Austin Anderson racked up 269 yards offensively with 19 tackles to push Unaka to a 40-32 victory last season.

Friday, October 24 – North Greene
The second of a three-game home stand will see the Rangers host North Greene. The Huskies are coming off a 2-8 record last season. Unaka dispatched North Greene 38-6 as Rasnick tallied four touchdowns, two through the air and two on the ground.

Friday, October 31 – Cosby
The Rangers will wrap up the regular season against Cosby. The Eagles went 1-9 last season as they recorded a victory over Hancock County. Unaka rolled to a 47-0 victory over Cosby at Cosby last season.
