Warriors drop heartbreaker; Rangers fall

Rockwood 32, Happy Valley 28

The Warriors had upset on the mind on Friday night. However, it ended in heartbreak.

Happy Valley went toe-to-toe with Region 2-2A No. 1 seed Rockwood, but was unable to come out on top as they fell 32-28 to the Tigers.

Sage Haun gave the Warriors an early lead with a five-yard run, and Josh Hammonds added the two-point conversion. However, Rockwood answered to tie the game at 8-8 entering the second quarter.

After Rockwood built up a two score lead, Mookie Madison scored on a 30-yard run, and Haun found Hammonds for a short touchdown pass to give the Warriors a 25-21 lead at the break.

Brayden Sams gave Happy Valley a 28-25 lead after three quarters of play.

Rockwood answered with 5:36 left in the game. The Warriors marched down the field, but saw the upset bid falter after a fumble in the final minute deep in Rockwood territory.


Harriman 60, Unaka 14

It was a rematch of a regular season match-up, but the Rangers didn’t have an answer for the Blue Devils’ high-powered offense.

Harriman scored early and often before John Ramsey hit Jacob Day for a 15-yard touchdown pass. However, the Rangers trailed 53-6 at the half.

In the second half, Ramsey found Brandon Guinn for a 45-yard touchdown pass and Ramsey added the two-point conversion with a pass to Hunt.
