Warriors, Lady Rangers get Thursday wins

Happy Valley used a strong run and never looked back on Thursday night.

The Warriors used a 15-0 run to open the game to roll to a 53-33 victory over Unaka on Warrior Hill. The Lady Rangers came out on top in the girls’ game with a 58-39 non-conference win over the Lady Warriors.


In the nightcap, Happy Valley set the tone early. The Warriors scored 15 unanswered points to open the game and took a 17-2 advantage into the second quarter.

Unaka saw the offense get rolling in the second, but HV maintained a 30-14 lead at the half.

The Rangers were unable to make a run in the second half as the Warriors maintained the advantage for the win.

Bryce Carter led the way for Happy Valley with 15 points and 16 rebounds – a great way to celebrate his birthday. Brayden Sams had 10 points for HV. James Harmon and Kevin Whitaker had eight points apiece.

Ryan Johnson led Unaka with eight points. Blake King and Isaac Hill had seven and six points, respectively.

In the girls’ game, the visiting Lady Rangers doubled up the Lady Warriors in the first quarter to take a 12-6 advantage. HV was unable to cut into the deficit in the second period as Unaka
held a 27-20 advantage at the half.

Any thought of a Happy Valley comeback was erased in the third quarter as Unaka outscored the Lady Warriors 16-6 in the frame.

Myah Parlier had a game-high 19 points for the Lady Rangers, while Erika Potter and Sarah Tipton had 10 points apiece. Lexi Garland added nine points.

Haley Green tallied 11 points to pace the Lady Warriors, while Kate Roberts had nine points. Emily Lunceford added eight points to the HV cause.
