Warriors, Lady Warriors fall at East

It was a tough night in Bluff City for Happy Valley.

The Warriors and Lady Warriors were unable to keep pace with Sullivan East on Tuesday night. The Happy Valley girls’ team fell 69-57 to the Lady Patriots, while the HV boys came up short in a 78-50 decision.

In the opening varsity game, Happy Valley saw an East run give the Lady Patriots a 15-10 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Warriors were unable to cut into the gap during the second as SE maintained a 36-26 lead at the break.

After Sullivan East extended the lead to 17 at the end of the third, the Lady Warriors made a late run, but were unable to erase the deficit.

Kalee Johnson had a game-high 21 points, while Emily Whitaker had 11 points. Bayley McGee scored 10 points.

The boys’ game saw the homestanding Patriots jump out to an 18-2 lead midway through the first quarter and never looked back. Happy Valley was able to trim the lead to 13 points at the half, but East kept Happy Valley at bay for the remainder of the game.

Austin Hicks tallied 14 points in the game to lead Happy Valley, while Josh Hammonds had 10 points. Braden Sams finished with nine points in the game.
