The road to Murfreesboro is now set.
Teams will begin action in the Region 1-A and Region 1-AA tournaments on Friday and Saturday as they look to make it to the TSSAA Bluecross Basketball Championships in Murfreesboro.
The girls’ teams are set to play on Friday with the boys’ teams opening playing on Saturday.
All seven remaining Carter County teams face elimination in the Regional Quarterfinals and Regional Semifinals. With two wins, a team will reach the Regional Final and a State Sectional berth.
In the Region 1-AA girls bracket, Elizabethton will open the tournament on Friday as the No. 1 seed from District 1-A against Cumberland Gap – who was the No. 4 seed from District 2 – at home. The winner of that game will take on the winner of District 2-No. 2 Grainger and District 1-No. 3 Sullivan Central at 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 25, at Happy Valley High School.
The bottom half of the Region 1-AA girls bracket will see District 2-No. 1 South Greene take on District 1-No. 4 Unicoi County while District 1-No.2 Sullivan South and District 2-No.3 Greenville will square off in Friday’s quarterfinals. Those two winners will meet in Monday’s semifinals at Happy Valley at 7:30 p.m.
The Region 1-AA Girls Championship game is set for Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., at Happy Valley.
On the boys’ side in Region 1-AA, top-seed from District 1 Cyclones will host District 2-No. 4 Grainger Saturday night inside Treadway Gymnasium. The winner will play the winner of District 2-No.2 Chuckey-Doak and District 1-No.3 Johnson County on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Happy Valley.
The bottom part of that bracket sees District 2-No. 1 Greeneville hosting District 1-No. 4 Greeneville and District 1-No. 2 Sullivan South hosting District 2-No. 3 South Greene in quarterfinal action, and the winners will square off in Tuesday’s semifinals.
The Region 1-AA Boys Championship game is set for Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m., at Happy Valley.
For the District 1-A girls, Cloudland and Hampton will be featured in the bottom half of the bracket, while Unaka landed in the top half.
The Lady ‘Landers claimed the two-seed from District 1 and will open the tournament inside Sonny Smith Gymnasium Friday night against District 2-No.3 Hancock County. Hampton enters the tournament as the No. 4 from District 1 and will travel to District 2-No. 1 Cosby. The winners of those two matchups will face off for a Regional Championship game berth on Monday, Feb. 25, at 7:30 p.m., at Sullivan North.
The top half of the bracket sees Unaka, who claimed District 1’s No. 3 seed, travel to District 2-No. 2 Greenback for a quarterfinal clash. The winner advances to play the winner of District 1-No. 1 Greenback and District 2-No. 4 Washburn on Monday at 6 p.m., at Sullivan North.
The Region 1-A Girls Championship is set for Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Sullivan North with a 7 p.m. tip.
Hampton and Unaka will represent Carter County in the Region 1-A Boys tournament but will be on opposite side of the brackets.
The Rangers open as the District 1-No. 3 seed with a trip to District 2-No. 2 Jellico on Saturday. The winner of that matchup will advance to play the winner of District 1-No. 1 University School and District 2-No. 4 Greenback on Tuesday at Sullivan North in the 6 p.m., clash.
Hampton looks to play the upset role on Saturday as No. 4 seed from District 1. The Bulldogs will travel to District 2-No. 1 Cosby, and the winner will advance to Tuesday’s 7:45 p.m., semifinal against the winner of District 1-No. 2 North Greene and District 2-No. 3 Hancock County.
The Region 1-A Boys Championship is set for Thursday, Feb. 28, at Sullivan North with a 7 p.m. tip.
