Cloudland wraps up regular season with sweep of Providence

It was Senior Night at Sonny Smith Gymnasium, and Cloudland took full advantage of it.

The ‘Landers picked up a 78-48 victory over Providence Academy, while the Lady ‘Landers cruised to a 56-31 victory.


In the boys’ game, Cloudland ended the first quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 15-9 lead into the first quarter. The ‘Landers turned the heat up in the second quarter as a 13-3 run in the closing stages of the half gave Cloudland a 38-24 advantage at the half.

Brinkley Mull and Robert Leeper sparked an impressive run for Cloudland as CHS extended the lead to 24 points.

From there, it was all Cloudland.

Leeper had 26 points, while Jason Potter had 17 points. Preston Benfield tallied 12 points.

In the girls’ game, Cloudland jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and that helped them to take a 15-6 first quarter lead.

Lisa Ellis and Shian Strickland hit big shots as CHS took a 17-point lead early in the second quarter. The Lady ‘Landers ended the half on an 11-0 run to hold a 35-11 advantage at the half.

In the second half, the outcome was never in doubt as CHS cruised to the win.

Strickland finished with 16 points – including her 1,000th career point. Stacia Wilson and Abbey Gouge had eight points apiece. DonRae Taylor and Johanna Johnson had six and five points, respectively.
