There’s a new No. 1 in Class 4A.

Elizabethton moved into the top spot in this week’s TSSAA AP Prep Football poll, while Hampton entered the poll.

In Class 4A, the Cyclones moved up one spot to take over No. 1 after Friday’s thrilling victory over Greeneville. The Cyclones received 17-of-19 first-place votes in the poll for a tally of 185.


It is the first time since 1999 that Elizabethton has been ranked in the top spot.

Haywood County was ranked No. 2 in the poll, and Anderson County came in at No. 3.

Greeneville dropped to No. 5 this week.

In Class 2A, Hampton entered the poll at No. 9 after dispatching South Greene on Friday night. The Bulldogs tallied 43 points – just one point behind No. 8 South Greene who dropped from No. 6 after Friday’s loss.

Peabody was the unanimous No. 1, while Watertown and Trousdale County were No. 2 and No. 3. Meigs County and Forrest rounded out the top five.
