Cyclones cruise past Grainger on the road

Elizabethton scored early and often on Friday night.

The Cyclones rolled to a 63-16 victory at Grainger in Region 1-4A action for their 19th straight victory. EHS improved to 4-0 on the season.

Elizabethton never looked back from the opening kick.

Nate Stephens scored on a 37-yard run, while Sean Smithdeal added the extra point. Later in the quarter, EHS scored on the first play of the drive when Bryson Rollins found Parker Hughes for a 61-yard score as the Cyclones took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Rollins ran in from two yards out as the Smithdeal extra point pushed the lead to 21-0.

Later in the quarter, Rollins scored his second rushing touchdown of the night as he scored on a one-yard run to push the lead to 28-8.

Grainger got on the board to trim the lead, but Elizabethton answered as Jake Roberts found Parker Hughes for a 69-yard touchdown pass.

That gave the Cyclones a 35-8 lead at the half.

Elizabethton picked up right where they left off in the second half.

Hughes caught a 10-yard pass for a touchdown early in the third quarter, and Roberts nabbed an interception and took it 50 yards for the score to give EHS a 49-8 advantage at the end of the third.

After Grainger added a touchdown to their total early in the fourth, LaDarian Avery scored two touchdowns in the fourth to account for the scoring.

Avery finished with 116 yards on 11 carries, while Stephens had 72 yards on six attempts. Rollins finished the game 7-of-10 passing for 108 yards.

Hughes had five catches for 155 yards receiving, while Roberts had 31 yards on two catches.
