A three-run start proved to be the winning difference.

Elizabethton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and held on for a 4-1 victory over Happy Valley on Wednesday in Elizabethton.

The Cyclones got on the board when E. Perkins hit a sacrifice fly to left field that pushed Ethan Eggleston across home plate. In the next at bat, Matthew Dailey hit a RBI single that saw Corey Russell and Michael Robinson score to give EHS a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the second, HV got one of those runs back as Dustun Sams scored on a wild pitch. Neither team was able to get anything going until the bottom of the fifth when Eggleston scored off a Robinson sac fly for Elizabethton.

Russell went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Evan Carter, Ryan Wetzel and Dailey added a hit apiece for the Cyclones. Landon Morefield, Sage Haun and Sams went 1-for-3 for Happy Valley.

On the mound, Brodie Adams picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on three hits with nine strikeouts. Happy Valley’s Sams gave up just four runs on five hits.
