Cyclones, Lady Cyclones advance in District 1-AA play

Elizabethton advanced in a big way on Wednesday.

The Cyclones jumped out to a 22-2 lead and never looked back en route to a 78-52 victory over Sullivan North in the District 1-AA Quarterfinals. In the girls’ game, the Lady Cyclones advanced with a 64-35 win over North.


Both Elizabethton squads secured a berth in the Region 1-AA tournament.

The Cyclones started the game on a roll. Michael Robinson, Hayden Townsend and Corey Russell helped power a quick EHS start as the Cyclones took a 27-2 lead. North was able to get back on track, but the damage was done as Elizabethton held a 29-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Cyclones maintained a 50-27 lead at the half and never looked back.

Robinson tallied 18 points to lead Elizabethton, while Alex Norwood and Evan Perkins added 11 points apiece. Jacob Norris and Adam Cornett added six points each. Hayden Townsend scored five points.

The Lady Cyclones had a slow start but responded to take a 13-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. EHS doubled up the Lady Raiders in the second quarter and never looked back.

Autumn Lyon led EHS with 17 points, while Haley Burleson added 14 points. Ashley Depew tossed in 10 points for Elizabethton.
