The Elizabethton boys’ basketball team picked up a big win on Friday night.
The Cyclones pulled away in the final quarter to take an 81-68 victory over Sullivan East.
In the girls’ game, Elizabethton dropped a tough 60-50 decision to the Lady Patriots.
For the Cyclones, it was a tough battle from the opening tip.
EHS jumped out to a 17-10 lead in the first quarter, but the Patriots clawed back within one at the half. The second half was a back-and-forth battle with Elizabethton able to open their lead to four points
Elizabethton was able to maintain the lead throughout the quarter and then secured the victory on the free-throw line in the closing stages.
Jake Roberts led the way with 23 points. Nico Ashley finished with 20 points, while Parker Hughes and Donta Earnest had 13 points apiece.
In the girls’ game, Elizabethton came out of the gate out as Kaitlin Bailey scored seven points while Lina Lyon, Renna Lane, and Kaylen Shell all hit 3-pointers to carry EHS to a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Patriots, however, flipped the switch and limited Elizabethton to just five points in the second quarter closing the EHS lead to 21-20 at the break.
Both teams played nearly even in the third quarter as neither was able to get any separation. The final quarter saw the Lady Patriots take care of business as the charity stripe to secure the win.
Lyon had 12 points for Elizabethton, while Headrick had 11 points. Bailey finished with 10 points.
