Elizabethton found their offensive groove early.
The Cyclones advanced with a 10-1 District 1-A tournament victory over Happy Valley on Sunday afternoon. EHS will take on Sullivan East at 3:30 on Monday, while the Warriors will face Johnson County in an elimination game at 8:30.
After Elizabethton jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Cyclone bats came alive. EHS scored six runs in the second to take a 7-0 lead, and then added a run in the third and fourth inning to take a 9-0 advantage.
Happy Valley was able to plate a run in the visitors’ side of the sixth, but Elizabethton answered to stop any thought of a Warrior comeback.
Evan Carter and Matthew Dailey led the way at the plate for the Cyclones with three hits apiece. Ethan Eggleston and Ryan Wetzel also had two hits.
Sage Haun and Dustun Sams led the Warriors with two hits apiece.
Garrett Hartley got the win on the mound for Elizabethton as he allowed just five hits to go with nine strikeouts.
