The Cyclones rebounded in a big way on Thursday night.
Elizabethton used a strong second quarter to take a 70-61 victory over Sullivan East in Bluff City in Three Rivers action. The girls’ game saw the Lady Patriots snap the Lady Cyclones’ 42-game Three Rivers winning streak with a 64-48 decision.
In the boys’ game, the Cyclones took control in the second. After playing to an 18-18 score during the first eight minutes of action, Michael Robinson and the Cyclones took control of the game outscoring the Patriots 27-10 in the frame. That gave Elizabethton a 45-28 lead at the half.
The second half saw the Cyclones maintain the advantage until late in the third quarter. Sullivan East was able to close within six points in the closing minutes, but Elizabethton was able to hold on for the win.
Robinson led the way with 19 points, while Hayden Townsend tallied 16 points. Alex Norwood had 15 points. Austin Cornett and Corey Russel had nine and seven points, respectively.
For the Lady Cyclones, the third quarter proved to be too much for Elizabethton to overcome.
Elizabethton trailed 27-20 at the half as the Lady Patriots slowly extended their lead. The third quarter saw East double up Elizabethton to take a 15-point advantage. The Lady Cyclones continued to fight, but was unable to make a dent in the East lead.
Haley Burleson had 16 points to lead Elizabethton, while Brittany Campbell had 10 points. Morgan Depew added seven points.
