It wasn’t pretty at times, but Elizabethton took care of business.
The Cyclones pulled away late from a pesky South Greene squad in a 45-6 victory in Elizabethton on Friday night.
With the win, EHS improved to 2-0.
In the early going, Elizabethton used the air attack to get things going. Carter Everett found Parker Hughes for a long touchdown and Jaxton Holly’s extra point gave EHS a 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter, Corey Russell was on the receiving end of an Everett pass for a 15-yard touchdown.
South Greene, however, answered with a lengthy drive to trim the Cyclone lead to 14-6 on a Levi Myers touchdown pass. The Cyclones added to the lead right before half as Russell scored on a short touchdown to give EHS a 21-6 lead at the half.
Everett threw his third touchdown of the night in the third quarter and the Holly extra point gave EHS a 28-6 advantage heading to the final 12 minutes. From there, EHS scored 17 points in the final stanza to secure the win.
Everett led EHS as he went 11-of-17 passing for 206 yards. Russell finished the night with four touchdowns.
Elizabethton returns to action next Friday night as Sullivan East comes to town.
